The Magician

The magician sat reflecting
How life passed him by
Oh it was just yesterday
He was wearing a bright blue tie

With a matching suit to go
He dazzled the audience
And bowled them over
Oh it was his maiden show...

He worked harder and harder
Unleashing new tricks every day
The audience made him famous
But oh, the price he had to pay...

Fame and riches made him
Move farther and further away
The child died and the wife left
While he enthralled and made hay

The magician sat contemplating
Could it have been another way...
A doting father, a loving husband
An ordinary man, Happy and gay?

He looked out of the window
And gave out a final sigh..
Perhaps it was God's trade off
And he was no one to ask why..

He couldn't take it anymore
And oh was it a mighty tug!
The magician lay peacefully
Wearing a blue tie, cosy and snug
